Jess and I started our first baking attempt a few days ago and it went very well for our first try! A few days before we baked, we decided to make a joint Pinterest page so we could save different recipes to it that we wanted to try and make together. We decided to start off our baking challenge with something somewhat simple… a chocolate chip cookie bar. This one was a good one to start with because we had each made chocolate chip cookies before, but had never made any sort of bars before. It was a good mix of what we already knew and learning new things. To start we got all the ingredients out and set them on the counter beside my laptop to make sure we had everything and made sure my phone was charged so we could take videos while baking.
We first had to set the oven to 325˙F and line our baking sheet with tinfoil.
Next, we mixed our dry ingredients which included the all-purpose flour, kosher salt, and baking soda into a bowl and set it aside. Some of the measurements the recipe called for were oddly specific, but we didn’t question it.
After that, we measured all of our wet ingredients which included unsalted butter, light brown sugar, granulated sugar, 1 egg, 1 egg yolk, and vanilla extract. We wisked these together in the standup mixer so it would be easier to fold the dry ingredients in there. By accident, I put 1 egg and 1 egg white into the mix without even thinking that the recipe called for an egg yolk.. once we realized this, we put another egg yolk into the mix and made it with 2 full eggs instead.
Next we folded in the dry ingredients and the chocolate chips. We used mini chocolate chips instead because that’s all I had.
Next we put laid out the dough on our baking sheet and put it in the oven for 23 minutes. We actually took the cookies out a couple minutes earlier because it was done cooking. We let them sit for 5 minutes before cutting them into pieces. They tasted exactly like a chocolate chip cookie, but more of a cake thickness.
In this baking attempt, we used our apple watch to ask Siri for certain measuring calculations, our phones for taking pictures/videos/time-lapses, and I used IMovie to create a small video of our tutorial which is linked here:
Jess and I decided that our next attempt is going to be Cookie’s ‘n’ Cream Cupcakes…. stay tuned!
