This is Jess and I’s second recipe challenge for our Free Inquiry project. For this baked good, we decided to make Oreo Cupcakes! Our Chocolate Chip Bars went so well that we thought we could try a more advanced recipe.

Here is the link to the recipe

First, we went grocery shopping to get all the ingredients we didn’t have Jessica’s house. Then we set all the ingredients up at her house and made sure my phone was charged so we could video tape.

After that, we put all our all ingredients, except for chocolate chips, which included: chocolate box cake mix, chocolate pudding, sour cream, oil, eggs, milk, and vanilla into the stand up mixer. Multiple time throughout the experience we had to use Jessica’s Google Home to how much sour cream we needed and other ingredients.

Next, we added chocolate chips into the mix. we lined the cupcake pan and put the batter into the liners and let it cook for 16 minutes. While the cupcakes were cooking, we got started on the frosting because it had to set in the fridge for an hour.

We beaten the cream cheese and vanilla until smooth, and then added the powdered sugar. I’m not the biggest fan of sugary tasting frosting and the recipe called for almost a full bag of it, so we decided to add and taste as we went along. We then added our cool whip and crushed Oreos until everything was combined. We put it in the refrigerator to set and were then able to take the cupcakes out of the oven and cool evenly.

Once we were ready to use the frosting, we folded it into a ziplock bag and cut off the tip so we could use it as a icing bag. It took us a couple of tries to finally get the circular and fluffy look the frosting had in the pictures, but once we got it the cupcakes looked amazing. We cut Oreos into halves so we could use them as a garnish onto of the cupcakes.

The cupcakes turned out way better than we ever thought they could. We were very impressed with ourselves. Since this one went so well, we’ve decided to make lemon and lavender bars next…

Lastly, here is our video of us making our cupcakes. This video took a lot longer to make because there was two parts to the recipe, but it turned out well.
