I have finally come to the midterm point in the semester where I get to showcase what I have learned with my song “Over the Rainbow” from the Wizard of Oz.

First I’m going to discuss some of the difficulties that I have discovered over the past couple of weeks since I last posted. Because we’re now almost over October, I discovered as soon as the second week of October came, every thing ramped up a notch, including my school work, my home life, my work life, and my friend life. I was finding it difficult to find time to practice while doing all my other course work and work in general, while also finding some “me” time. I managed to figure it out within the last week because what I think I have accomplished is something pretty great. I also never thought I’d play the piano again but I’m so incredible happy I did because it has brought whole other sense of relaxation back into my life.

As for the class, being able to have that one day of practice during class was very beneficial because I got to discuss with others who were also doing piano about their struggles and successes. I also discovered that I can play all of my right hand 2-octave Major scales, which I thought I completely forgot about.

Now to the song. At first I found the right hand very easy to read and it came right back to me on the piano, whereas the left hand did not and it took me a lot longer to go through the notes slowly and really try to feel where the keys were on the keyboard. Also, within the last couple days of practicing, I’ve noticed that I like to speed up, and when I speed up, I mess up big time. So I’ve been practicing to try and keep a steady paste and the song sounds terrific when I can do that.

Here is a video of my finished product of the song. I hope you enjoy it 🙂
