Today in class, we had 3 grade 8 students and grade 8 teacher come and teach us how you can use Minecraft in the elementary classroom.

We used the Educational Edition of Minecraft and went through a tutorial on how to use it. First, they taught us some things the students can do with it to use it in the classroom. The teacher said she made her students create a Roman empire so the students understood the architecture of the era. As the teacher, she could fly around and see what her students were working on, and if they weren’t working, she knew right away and could go and fix the situation.

We  then got to try it out for ourselves. It was very cool and took a little getting use to. I ended up getting very nauseous watching it so Jess and I worked together.

Minecraft is an easy way to be very cross curricular and take into considerations of what your students enjoy to get them more engaged. Video games are a big part of our society now and this is an excellent way to include them into our classrooms.
